Hi there! I’m Afsana, a first-year student studying physics. I have a lot of different hobbies, but my favorite ones are photography, working out, plane spotting, and solving puzzles. I love the city and plan on living here forever. Three words that describe me best are scientist, learner, and advocate. I’ve done plenty of research over the years, both scientific and not. My astrophysics research on orbital determination is being used by NASA to prevent collisions with near-Earth asteroids, while my many NY-based research projects have been (and still are!) being used by elected officials to inform policy decisions throughout our state. Currently, I am working with the NYS Education Department and the Board of Regents to create new graduation measures that will replace the Regents exams in a few years. In terms of future goals, I hope to be a science communicator and an inventor. I want to use my physics background to invent something that will solve a problem and create change.
Fun fact: every picture on this portfolio is one that I’ve taken. Enjoy!
